David A. Rodgers is an international award winning professional photographer. He is a contributing photographer for Down East magazine and has worked as a staff or contract photographer for the Boston Globe, Rocky Mountain News, Portland Press Herald, Maine Sunday Telegram, Mainebiz magazine, Merrimack Repertory Theatre and Portland Stage Company. He has handled literally thousands of freelance assignments from numerous publications such as the USA Today, New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Time, Newsweek, People, U.S. News and World Report, Soap Opera Weekly, Woman's World, Boston College Law School Magazine, UVM Quarterly, Portland Phoenix, Habitat - Journal of the Maine Audubon Society among many others. David was represented by the world's largest photo news agency, Sygma Photo News, and his photographs appeared worldwide as he photographed President George H.W. Bush throughout his four-year presidency as part of the special White House press travel pool at the "Summer White House" in Kennebunkport, Maine. David has won numerous first, second and third place awards from the National Press Photographer's Association, New England Associated Press News Editors Association, Society for News Design and the Maine Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest. Additionally, he is a past winner of the Dart Award for Excellence in Reporting on Victims of Violence and of the James K. Batten Award for Excellence in Civic Journalism. He was runner-up for the National Press Photographers Association's New England Photographer of the Year award and was honored as the Portland Newspapers's Employee of the Month. One of his photos was awarded by the University of Missouri's annual Picture of the Year (POY) contest. David has performed commercial photography for a wide range of clients from corporate titans such as Polaroid and ITEK to the smaller endeavors such as Becky's Diner. Some of his many commercial clients have included, Cole Hahn, Correct Deck, Maine College of Art, Maine Mall, Mercy Hospital, Saco Biddeford Savings Institution, Southern Maine Medical Center, Wynonna Judd, UNUM and UNUMProvident Corporations. As a computer programmer, David was part of a two-person team at Nexus Computer that developed real-time fault-tolerant processes supporting the first computerized trading for over-the-counter brokerage firms on Wall Street in the early 80's. Their clients were among the top names on Wall Street including, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs and Salomon Brothers. Additionally, they installed the first trading system on the Quotron terminal. David designed and created relational database tools for use by Kemper Financial Services's regional executives. He designed and created an automatic image conversion system for use in the publication of daily newspaper web sites. David is an accomplished Macromedia Flash developer and has created web sites and Macromedia Flash installations for a range of companies including, Augusta Federal Savings Bank, W.O. Hesperus, Surplus Motors.com, Art Adventures.org, YourHouse4Rent, Becky's Diner and Envatec. David gladly accepts assignments locally, regionally and nationally.
